Archeologie textů/Archaelogy of Texts

„Archeologie textů“, aneb nový výzkumný projekt na našem ústavu / “Archaeology of Texts,”
or a new research project at our Institute
Díky podpoře ze strany Grantové agentury ČR (GA ČR) zahajujeme na našem ústavu nový
výzkumný projekt nazvaný „Archeologie textů. Tradice, transmise a transformace na
starověkém Předním východě“ (https://gacr.cz/ga-cr-podpori-od-ledna-pres-500-novych-
vedeckych-projektu/). V následujících třech letech (2023–2025) se tak badatelský tým složený
z domácích a zahraničních odborníků zaměří na studium principů šíření klínopisné tradice
v periferních oblastech, a to zejména v průběhu 2. tisíciletí př. n. l.
Právě šíření kulturních prvků z mezopotámských center do periferií ve 3.-2. tis. př. Kr.
představuje klíčový okamžik kulturních a jazykových dějin starověkého Předního východu.
Z hlediska
struktury můžeme v tomto procesu sledovat tři úzce propojené roviny, jejichž společná
interpretace nám umožní komplexní pohled na tuto tematiku. První rovina je technologická, tj.
zabývá se přenosem vlastního písemného záznamu, tradicí a transformací školních textů. Ve
druhé rovině můžeme hovořit o přenosu jazykovém, tj. jakým způsobem docházelo k šíření
mezopotámských jazyků (akkadštiny a sumerštiny) v prostoru západních periferií. Třetí
rovina nám ukazuje přenos literárních tradic, jejich přeměnu a roli ve společnosti.
Hlavním cílem předloženého projektu je prostřednictvím tří tematických bloků –
technologického, jazykového a kulturně-společenského – identifikovat procesy kulturního
přenosu v písemnictví starověkého Předního východu (3.-2. tis. př. Kr.) a objasnit tak vznik,
přenos a transformaci písemných tradic.

“Archaeology of Texts,” or a new research project at our Institute
Thanks to the support of the Czech Science Foundation (GA ČR) we are starting a new
research project at our Institute entitled "Archaeology of Texts. Tradition, Transmission, and
Transformation in the Ancient Near East" (https://gacr.cz/ga-cr-podpori-od-ledna-pres-500-
novych-vedeckych-projektu/). In the next three years (2023–2025), a research team consisting
of local and foreign experts will focus on the study of the principles of the spread of the
cuneiform tradition in the peripheral regions, especially during the second millennium BCE.
It is the spread of cultural elements from the Mesopotamian centers to the peripheries in the
third-second millennia BCE that represents a key moment in the cultural and linguistic history

of the ancient Near East. This complex and multi-layered process can be viewed from many
angles, but is always a cultural transfer. A fundamental role in this process was played by the
spread of cuneiform writing, which was a tool for the transmission of cultural and literary
traditions, in several languages. In terms of structure, we can observe three closely
interconnected levels in this process, the joint interpretation of which will allow us to take a
comprehensive view of the subject. The first level is technological; i.e. it deals with the
transmission of the written record itself, the tradition, and the transformation of school texts.
In the second one we can talk about linguistic transmission, i.e., how the Mesopotamian
languages (Akkadian and Sumerian) were spread in the space of the western peripheries. The
third level shows us the transmission of literary traditions, their transformation, and role in
society.
The main aim of the present project is to identify, through three thematic blocks –
technological, linguistic, cultural, and social – the processes of cultural transmission in the
literature of the ancient Near East (third-second millennia BCE) and thus to elucidate the
emergence, transmission, and transformation of literary traditions.
